Help shed light on community sector needs

It’s more important than ever for the community sector to provide accurate data about how organisations are coping. Have your say in the annual Australian Community Sector Survey.

With the pandemic and associated economic changes deeply impacting the community sector and exposing stark inequalities across communities, the findings of this year’s Australian Community Sector Survey will be especially significant.

ACOSS CEO Dr Cassandra Goldie said it was more important than ever before for the community sector to provide accurate data about how our vital organisations, and the people with whom we work, are coping through the many fluctuating challenges of this pandemic.

“The information and insights we collect in the annual Australian Community Sector Survey sharpen our ability to advocate for changes needed, including better funding arrangements, to support people at highest risk of falling through the cracks,” Goldie said.

The ACOSS survey provides a snapshot of the sector in terms of current funding, demand on services, emerging needs and pressures, and sector priorities. It examines changes in the operating environment of community organisations, looks at how the sector is responding to community need, and puts a spotlight on major issues of concern.

“By taking part in the survey, community sector organisations contribute to the public understanding of our valuable work, and what is needed to support people experiencing hardship and to foster inclusive, caring communities,” Goldie said.

The Australian Community Sector Survey, undertaken by the Social Policy Research Centre at UNSW Sydney, is commissioned by ACOSS in partnership with the State and Territory Councils of Social Service and with the support of Bendigo Bank, whose commitment to strong communities has seen over $251 million invested in local communities since 1998.

The full report will be published in early 2022.

Completing the survey is voluntary and takes about 10-15 minutes. Take part here.
