7 tips for Maintaining Wellbeing

My tip is going on an ‘Alien Walk’, the concept of which was shared to me by one of my dear friends. The idea being that you approach your walk as if you were an alien visiting Earth for the first time, gathering information to send back to your planet. It’s a really grounding exercise because not only are you getting the benefits of physical movement, but it also taps into your senses, asking you to be present and notice details in the things that surround us.

Troy

Basically all things that get me out of the house!

  • Walking the dog

  • Social Tennis

  • Catch-ups with friends

Javi

In modern times, there is little time to take care of yourself because every day is pretty much go, go, go. I keep myself busy raising a young family, managing the house, and working.

Finding time for everything, including leisure, can be challenging. However, a few years ago, I realized the importance of pressing stop and resetting myself.

I engage in physical activity at least three days a week. I also found that coffee or tea before everyone is up works for me, especially when I need extra pampering. I treasure watching the sunrise and taking in this peaceful moment for myself. I recommend this as part of your daily well-being routine. No one else will do it if you don’t care for yourself.

Let’s be more conscious of balance and taking moments for our well-being.

Lisa

I make a strong effort to eat well, ensuring good foods go into my body, which is important for wellbeing. I also like to go for a walk outdoors, listening to uplifting music, and practicing gratitude.

When I’m feeling the need for some mental clarity or a reset, I like to sit on our balcony with a cup of coffee and look through a recipe magazine or do a craft. I find the mix of creativity and fresh air – not to mention the caffeine! – are good for my mind and soul.

Going for a run outside. I love this because it’s a mix of getting the body moving but also I find it so helpful for the mind – clears my mind, which helps me feel calmer and I notice improved sleep. And the vitamin D is a big benefit too!

Michelle

Bounce-back (days or hours)

During a busy period of multiple projects, lots of deadlines, EOFY or extensive travel, I tend to push through and work extended hours. This is not sustainable or a perfect balance for wellbeing, so in advance I schedule “bounce-back” time to counteract the high pressure and work demands. I block out a day or a few hours in the not-too-distant future, usually a Friday during school hours for some extra self-care – a massage, movie, extra yoga class or hike in nature, or a social catch-up with a friend for laughter and a long lunch. This helps to tip the balance back.
