WA Social Care Jobs Increase Predicted

Western Australia’s health and social care sector is predicted to resemble the strength of the State’s resources sector, according to the Minister for Training and Workforce Development Murray Cowper.
“Health, including social, care is expected to be one of the industries leading jobs growth in WA in coming years, with about 6,100 additional jobs per year,” Cowper said.
“This sector is facing ever increasing community demands; we have an ageing workforce at a time when people are living longer and major new hospitals and medical services are opening.”
Cowper said that similar to WA’s resource sector and its demand for trade-qualified workers other industries were also experiencing skills shortages and had similar growth potential.
Cowper also launched the State’s first-ever smart phone ‘app’ connecting potential apprentices and trainees with employers.
The ApprentiCentre app lists current vacancies for a wide range of apprenticeships and traineeships in WA. It also displays the geographical location of jobs, helping people search the suburb or region where they are most interested in working.
“Apprenticeships and traineeships have gone mobile and it is now easier than ever to search for opportunities anywhere, anytime,” Cowper said.
“The app also helps employers find the right person for their company by sending job seekers a message to let them know about current opportunities.”
