Seminar Looks at Gender Pay Gap

A series of seminars set to address the financial saving gap between men and women will urge women to take more control of their finances.

The Women and Money seminars will look at the discrepancies in financial independence between men and women by providing women with affordable and practical information and essential life-long money management skills.

Seminar hosts, The Queen Victoria Women’s Centre and the Women’s Financial Network said recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed women earned 18-33% less than men.

The seminars will look at the environments women find themselves in, including women take on care-giving roles, spending less time in the workforce and more time in part-time jobs.

It will also consider the fact women live longer than men so their finances need to last longer into retirement.

The seminars will be delivered by financial planner Susan ‘Ms Money’ Jackson and will cover essential topics such as budgeting, superannuation, buying a first home, relationships, investments and retirement.

Jackson said financial independence is what gives women real choices in their lives.

“The Women and Money seminars provide information, hints and tips that women can implement easily into their busy lives and to give women the knowledge to become informed, confident and active financial decision makers,” she said.

“The good news is that the vast majority of Australian women want to learn more about complex money management issues such as planning, investment strategies and managing their retirement.”

The Women & Money seminars have helped 2,000 women to take control of their finances since 2007.

The 10 Women and Money seminars will run from July 30 to November 26.
