Call for Global Conversation Starters with TEDxCanberra

Australian NGOs, social entrepreneurs, and community-oriented individuals are being urged to take up the opportunity to speak on the TEDxCanberra stage this year.

TEDxCanberra is looking for people and organisations to inspire, surprise, and challenge the diverse audience at the annual conference on September 8, 2012.

TED is a Not for Profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

TEDxCanberra Licensee Stephen Collins, said with an eclectic mix of presenters, attendees and subject matter, TEDxCanberra is a truly unique experience.

“Here in the nation’s capital we have the opportunity to shape future conversations not only nationally, but globally.

“For the past two years we have showcased a collection of talented presenters and this year we will raise the bar even higher with a new home, and double the audience capacity, at The Playhouse at the Canberra Theatre.

“The 2012 theme ‘An Optimistic Challenge’ will encourage speakers to ask thought-provoking questions rather than provide all the answers, and will hopefully agitate people just enough to make them go out and contribute something positive to their local communities.

“This year we are interested in hearing from performing artists and musicians, to activists and social entrepreneurs, to philosophers and scientists. They could be starting a life-changing conversation, providing a different perspective of world, or just be ordinary people doing extraordinary things – doesn’t really matter.

“Only one percent of presentations make it to TED.com and to date, two TEDxCanberra talks now feature on the website which is viewed by hundreds of thousands of people.

“I want TEDxCanberra 2012 to be the most affecting, effective, and profound event people will attend this year. If it isn’t, then we haven’t done our job,” Stephen said.

If you think you have an “idea worth spreading”, send in your nomination at www.tedxcanberra.org.au and let us showcase your talent to the world.

TEDxCanberra 2012 will be held on Saturday, 8 September 2012 at The Playhouse in The Canberra Theatre. For more information visit www.tedxcanberra.org.au
