Nominate a Young Leader for Newsboys Awards
28 June 2013 at 12:12 pm

Young people working or volunteering in community organisations who inspire other young Victorians will be recognised in the Newsboys Foundation Leadership Awards.

Two young leaders will win up to $15,000 in professional development prizes as part of the Newsboys Foundation 120th anniversary celebrations.

The Foundation will be looking for individuals who have demonstrated inspiring leadership in helping those from disadvantaged backgrounds to overcome adversity and to realise their potential.

Nominations will be received in two categories- the Youth Leadership Award for leaders aged between 14 and 18, with $5,000 prize money, and the Community Leadership Award for leaders aged 18+, with $10,000 prize money.

The prize money will enable the winner to undertake professional development such as further learning, travel, research, or project development.

Nominations will be reviewed by a judging panel and chaired by Commissioner for Children and Young People, Bernie Geary OAM.

The Newsboys Foundation provides grants to community organisations working with disadvantaged young people aged 11 – 18 years in Victoria.

The Newsboys Foundation was a Melbourne-based Club for newsboys from 1893 until 1973. It then became a Foundation supporting community organisations working with disadvantaged young people in Victoria.

Throughout its long life, the organisation has strived to support young people in the community who need assistance to realise their full potential.
