Average Wage Rising: Report

The average full time weekly wage has risen 4.8% to $1,485.80 per week in the past 12 months, according the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics report.
Those employed in the public sector had a higher average weekly wage than their private sector counterparts, at $1,513.60 and $1,396.60 respectively (a difference of $117.00).
The full-time adult male average weekly earnings were $1,621.90 in the public sector, and $1,496.40 in the private sector.
The full-time adult female average weekly earnings in May 2013 were $1,408.80 in the Public sector, and $1,184.90 in the Private sector.
In May 2013, those employed in the Mining industry had the highest Full-Time Adult Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings in Australia at $2,423.50.
The industry with the lowest level of Full-Time Adult Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings was the Retail trade industry ($1,022.00).
Healthcare and social assistance industry had an average weekly wage of $1351 while the Arts and recreation services industry took home an average wage of $1315.
Employees in the Australian Capital Territory had the highest full-time adult average weekly wage at $1,702.00, followed by Western Australia ($1,644.80).
The Australian Capital Territory has a high proportion of Public sector workers, who on average earn more than those in the Private sector.
In recent years WA has experienced a resource sector boom which has had a significant influence on wages in the Mining industry.
The boom has also extended to those businesses providing services to Mining, such as those in the Construction and Wholesale trade industries.
